One of the highlights of being an author/illustrator is connecting with kids through school visits. My talks center around my journey from "a kid who loves to draw" to a published author/illustrator. They also peek behind-the-scenes to show the process involved in creating a picture book. I strive to be both entertaining and educational. My presentations consist of images from all phases of a picture book, a spirited reading of one of my books, an interactive drawing session, and finally Q & A. My goal is to inspire a love of books, to foster creativity, and to encourage all kids to dream big and never give up.
My presentations are geared toward grades K-4, and can be adjusted for the specific grade level. They average 45-50 minutes in length and work best for groups of 120 children or less. I can present to up to three groups in one day. I charge $175 per presentation, plus travel expenses. For visits outside Greater Louisville, a minimum of two presentations is required.
I'm also happy to visit with your students virtually, via Zoom or Google Meets. The presentation follows a similar path as the in-person visits, but with a shorter slide presentation and more interactive drawing. Since no travel is involved, my rate is $100 per presentation.
I offer a discount for schools purchasing 50 books or more.
